A Real Pain in the Neck!

I mean a REAL one! I threw out my upper back a couple days ago, and cannot seem to sit at my computer longer than a few minutes at a time. And don't get me started on the drugs the doctor gave me! I poured cereal into my juice glass this morning.

I will be sitting it out today and will be back as soon as I can!

Perhaps I will sneak my daughter's laptop and read all the blogs I have been missing while I lay on the couch!

Oh gee, I am so sorry. My husband has done that a couple of times and I know from looking at his pinched face that it's not good. We once drove five hours with a large dog, enroute to a rented beach house for the week. Next morning, he went out early for a walk by the sea. As I sat at the window with my cup of coffee, I saw him coming up over the dunes, his body shaped like one of the more flamboyant letters of the alphabet. Bending over to pick up an attractive shell....whammo. Sure enough, he was down for the count the entire week. I felt like Scarlett O'Hara tending the wounded for my whole long holiday.

Feel Better Katie!

You may think I'm nuts, but go see a chiropractor! Two visits and you will be as good as new without any drugs. Also, ask for some biofreeze - you rub it on and it's God's gift to aches & pains!

My sis is a chiro - can you tell?

You should be icing it, taking inflamartory reducers (naproxen) sometimes muscle relaxers for a few days and tylenol. All of this together should work. DO NOT stretch!

Katie,

I hope you feel better soon. I have a terrible cold but I'm trying to keep on truckin'. I hate to be down. All I can think about is all I have to do. I wish I had some advice for you on back & neck issues but luckily I haven't had that yet. Hang in there.

Hope you get better ...SOON. I have a crazy back and I have been using acupuncture for the past two years--it really helps and keeps me moving.

Sorry to hear about your back problems. I hope you mend quickly. Glad it didn't happen while you were on your trip. Stunning pictures, by the way. Makes me want to go, right now!

oh no katie!! in my real life i'm a pilates instructor. for upper back issues i have my clients lie on the floor (face up) with their legs all the way up on the wall (bottom right up to where the wall and floor meet). open your arms out wide like a letter T. try and stay there for at least 10 minutes (preferably longer). every once and a while look over to the left (hold for a bit) and then look to right. this opens up the upper middle back.
i hope it helps.

Oh I have been there more than once..The worst thing you can do is take drugs and ride it out on the sofa....I know that is not good to hear. I finally found a back dr. who was amazing and he said walking SLOWLY and relaxing your body, untighten your butt and wiggling your hips just a bit will help and guess what it does, no surgery for me. Had to share, I know you are getting alot of comments on how to fix it...Can you tell we have all been there and feel your pain? Hang in there and get better soon!

Thank you all so much for all of the well-wishing and great advice! I think the drugs are not helping (other than the Advil)enough to continue, plus they were making me feel too woozy. Moving around and ice is helping....sleep is still difficult, but I have got to get things done around here! Here's hoping it goes away soon!! And to all of you going through this kind of pain....I am thinking about you every minute and hoping you get better soon too!

Oh dear! Take it easy ~ read some blogs ~ sometime the drugs are necessary ~ but don't try anything more critical than pouring cereal... Seriously, backs are awful to hurt. Heal completely before doing anything strenuous (trust me on that one).
