Little Things

Sometimes little things will change a day from ordinary to beautiful and sweet.

Thinning out branches from a rose bush turned into a lovely display on our Living Room table. It has been there for days. The roses have faded, but the branch remains green. I look at it and smile a bit every day.

Having my daughter home for the summer from college has been wonderful in many little ways.....I forgot how much I missed her talents as a pastry chef. My sweet tooth has been sated with German Chocolate Cake, Pineapple Upside Down Cake, Strawberry Short Cake and Cherry Pie.

A hot summer drive to a new client's home turned into a cool visit with a flock of ducks who were  napping on the road next to a still and quiet pond.....a little resting place for a busy mind.

Another year lived well.

I hope you are finding some joy in the little things today!

Lovely post, Katie.

I love the painting over your fireplace -- who is the artist?

Thank you Anita! I was so lucky to find this painting at the Sacramento Antique Faire for quite the steal! ($35!!!) It is signed Schustrin '63. I have not been able to find out anything about the artist, so if anyone knows anything, I would love to know!!

*** Katie, your rose branch looks just sooooo simple and sooooo sweet, that it really touched me... (And if one lives in the DESERT???.. "I don't THINK so, kiddo!"... (unless they're purchased from the florist!!!)...

SOOO, a lovely & unexpected "rosy blessing" for you, as WELL as the blessing of having your precious daughter home.........

....... Yes, LIFE really is NOT in "things", but it is in US"!!! GOOD EXAMPLE HERE!!!

Happiest of time together!

*** P.S... I can ALWAYS sit and watch delightful ducks in the park, or anywhere... these are PRECIOUS & ALWAYS bring SUCH a smile to one's face!!!

We have doves AND quail (anad their little families at the "right time of year), along with other birds, too, that "hang out" at our pool, especially the doves at "certain times of day"... in the A.M. it always seems like they're "chatting it up" before the day starts, or sharing end-of-the-day cocktails in the P.M. "cocktail hour", just like us!!!... ya gotta love 'em!!!) ***

I am enjoying having my daughter home this summer as well! Waking up in the morning and knowing she is sleeping in her bed is such a great feeling. The rose branches look GREAT!

I always enjoy images from your home. Funny, I remember that first summer home being a rocky one - seems you have found the sweet spot.

Love this Katie. My daughter, home from college as well, loves to bake when she is here! I need to take some photos of her next goodies and post them. My husband and I have to be careful not to gain too much weight when she is here!
